Anyone added to a card will essentially be following all the activity that happens within it. Each could instead be some overarching task with more concrete subtasks included within as a checklist. The cards that go into the lists aren't tasks per se. For example, you might have a board for a website redesign project, and your lists could be major phases of the project (i.e., milestones).
